Solar Panel Batteries
Here is a few things to keep in mind when selecting a solar panel battery. You want a deep cycle battery. Deep cycle batteries are designed to be discharged and recharged hundreds or even thousands of times, where an automotive battery can only be discharged and recharged a dozen or so times. Deep cycle batteries are rated in amp hours. Amp hours is the amount of current or amps the battery will output for one hour when fully charged. Lets say we have a 100 amp hour battery that is connected to a 100 amp load the battery would last one hour. If the same 100 amp hour battery is connected to a 10 amp load the battery would last 10 hours. For longer battery life and quicker recharge time never discharge the solar panel battery more than 50 percent of the amp hour rating. Always use a blocking diode between the solar panel and the battery to prevent the solar panel from acting like a load on the battery when the sun goes down. Always use a good charge controller to keep the solar panel battery charged and not over charged.
